| Workstations Utilize Biometric Fingerprint Technology in Swedish Prisons
Precise Biometrics AB has won a public procurement contract with the National Swedish Prisons and Probation Administration (PPA), which is testing the Precise fingerprint reader and associated software at a number of workstations in its headquarters in Norrköping, Sweden. The procurement is a phase within the PPA to enhance IT security and replace or supplement current login routines based on passwords, with biometric fingerprint identification and smart cards.
Several registers at the PPA require a higher level of security than others. The Administration is investigating the possibility of moving to a system with fingerprints and smart cards to replace the ID/password system in use today.
"We see great advantages with fingerprint-based login. Partly to minimize the risk that unauthorized persons can gain access our systems and partly because we hope to reduce the administration concerning passwords and codes. Precise Biometrics' products proved best in meeting our rigorous demands for a secure and convenient solution," said Björn Linderoth, head of IT security at PPA.
Christer Bergman, CEO of Precise Biometrics commented, "It is particularly satisfying for us to be chosen by the PPA, with its very strict security requirements, in tough competition with four other industry colleagues. This is an excellent example of an environment where our solutions do themselves justice."
