Hy-Vee Test Piloting SecureTouch Retail Verification System
Biometric Access Corporation (BAC) announced that retailer Hy-Vee is piloting their SecureTouch Retail Verification System for secure payroll check cashing services. Five Hy-Vee stores near Kansas City are implementing the solution for payroll check cashing, while two of them are also using it for personal check cashing transactions.
The system uses a flag alert process to notify a store clerk if a check and/or a customer have been involved in a previous dishonored transaction. Flag alerts can also warn the clerk if the system detects signs of check tampering. Customers cashing their checks must complete a one-time enrollment process to capture their ID and check information, in addition to their finger images. The data creates a personalized account accessed by the customer during subsequent check cashing transactions. The customer's finger image and a PIN must match those presented at enrollment to proceed with the transaction.
"Incorporating biometrics into our check cashing process has been a tremendous benefit to our stores as well as our customers," said Mark Glosser, store director at Hy-Vee's Leawood, KS store. "The SecureTouch system enables Hy-Vee to offer our customers the convenient service of payroll check cashing without facing the risk of high check losses."
"As a single supplier of the biometric hardware, software, and turnkey application solutions, BAC can better respond to its retail customer needs," said BAC president and CEO Ron Smith. "Our customers are able to work directly with BAC to expand the technology into multiple aspects of their business and increase their return on investment."
