Beijing: Biometrics Fingerprint Card Coming -March 6, 2003

Watchdata Co., Ltd., located in the Zhongguancun High-tech Park, and Automation Research Center of Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) are going to design and produce the biometrics fingerprint IC card that a biometrics intelligent identification card. The card will be put into production at the end of 2003, and it will be used in financial institutes and governmental offices.

Now, fingerprint identification technology is becoming mature. CAS has a lot of achievements in large scale computing of fingerprint information. As the tenth intelligent card vendor of the world, Watchdata designs the function of comparison of biological characteristic embedded inside the card.

The biometrics card used to depend on card reader, so it is not safe enough. But the embedded function is the cutting-edge technology in the world.

The industry execs expect the biometrics products sales will be US$ 5 billion or US$ 8 billion in the coming decade, in which intelligent card takes 30% to 50% including ID card or cards used in companies, financial institutes and social security.
