Baltimore Airport Chooses Bioscrypt to Secure Key Sites

Aug-12-03

Bioscrypt Inc., a leading provider of advanced fingerprint technology, announced today that Martin State Airport in Baltimore, Maryland, has installed Bioscrypt(TM) V-Smart(TM) fingerprint readers to control personnel access at the facility.

Selected for ease-of-use, varied interface protocols and the ability to store fingerprint templates on a smart card, Bioscrypt's V-Smart fingerprint reader with integrated contactless smart card technology, was evaluated against numerous other biometric devices before being chosen the biometric of choice.

"We wanted a biometric to ensure only the proper people are permitted to access the facility," stated Jake R. West jr., airport manager for Martin State Airport.

Martin State Airport, a general aviation facility, serves private and business aircraft. Airport management made the decision to implement biometrics to increase overall security at high value locations, including the network room and the air traffic control tower.

"The RTCA DO-230A, Standards for Airport Security Access Control Systems, recommends either fingerprint, iris scan, or hand geometry in airport deployments. We did the research and Bioscrypt fit well into our specifications," added West.

"Bioscrypt is beginning to see many airport trials throughout the USA move to full scale deployment," said Julia Webb, vice president of global sales and marketing for Bioscrypt. "Due to unsurpassed accuracy and the ability to handle high-throughput locations, our fingerprint technology is well suited for airport security. This installation is one of many recent deployments involving Bioscrypt's readers in airports throughout the USA."
