BIO-key International, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: BKYI), the leader in finger-based biometric identification, announced a strategic agreement with HP (NYSE: HPQ). The agreement allows for the incorporation of BIO-key's high-speed finger-based identification technology into HP's comprehensive security solutions for the United States Federal government.

According to BIO-Key CEO Mike DePasquale, the two companies will jointly pursue marketing, sales, and support efforts for products, services, and solutions for U.S. Federal government projects. "BIO-key is focused on every aspect of finger-based biometrics, speed, accuracy, and ease of integration. Our algorithms and web-based solutions integrate extremely well into HP's spectrum of security solutions for protecting U.S. citizens, visitors, and government information," DePasquale said.

"BIO-key's technology team has produced an effective and accurate means of finger-based identification," said Bruce Klein, vice president, federal sales and marketing, HP Public Sector Organization. "The level of speed and quality produced by BIO-key's Vector Segment Technology and Web-Key products is an important part of many security solutions sought by the federal government."

The pace has picked up in biometric demand in the United States. Several specific examples include the Enhanced Border Security and Visa Entry Reform Act of 2002, which requires biometric authentication, and the U.S. Department of Defense has a plan to include biometric data on their Common Access Card smart cards by 2004. The Information Awareness Office also uses digital fingerprints to help identify terrorist activities. The group searches databases and relies on biometrics for human identification.
