SAFLINK Offers Software Development Kit — SDK -- for Biometric Authentication of Enterprise Applications

Sep-23-03

BELLEVUE, Wash.- SAFLINK(R) Corporation (Nasdaq: SFLK), a leading developer, marketer, and integrator of biometric security solutions, today announced the availability of its SAFauthenticator(TM) Software Development Kit (SDK), a product that enables programmers to add SAFLINK's biometric authentication framework to any enterprise application for a more secure infrastructure.

This is the first offering from SAFLINK that enables third-party developers to utilize the same proven biometric authentication tools currently at work in governmental bodies, leading financial institutions, and healthcare facilities.

"Most people agree that passwords can be easily compromised, but many software providers have been hesitant to tackle the issue on their own due to its complexity," said Greg Jensen, CTO of SAFLINK. "Through our SDK, they can now leverage our 12 years of expertise in developing proven solutions designed to increase security and user convenience."

SAFauthenticator SDK enables software developers, systems integrators, and value-added resellers to directly integrate and secure applications in conjunction with SAFLINK's enterprise domain security products: SAFsolution(R) for Windows(R) Active Directory(R) and SAFmodule(TM) for Novell(R) eDirectory(R) (both sold separately). SAFsolution and SAFmodule tightly integrate with existing network environments to ensure seamless security and performance.

Once in place, SAFLINK's biometric authentication simplifies and strengthens system logon procedures by replacing a user's passwords with a unique individual characteristic, such as a fingerprint or iris scan. For instance, the recent increase in security measures required for HIPAA compliance within the healthcare industry has made biometrics especially relevant for software developers such as North Carolina-based A4 Health Systems(R).

"Since patient privacy and data security are major concerns for our clients, we need the ability to incorporate stronger security into all of our products," said Stephen M. Ura, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of A4 Health Systems. "SAFLINK's SDK is an easy-to-use tool that allows us to integrate a proven biometric security product into any enterprise application. This dramatically improves our ability to provide a strong authentication solution which is convenient for end-users — and flexible enough to meet the specific needs of our customers."

SAFLINK's open-standards, non-proprietary approach also benefits application providers that want to provide their customers the freedom to select the specific biometric devices that best meet the needs of each particular deployment. SAFauthenticator SDK supports C++ and Visual Basic integration platforms and is coupled with a comprehensive maintenance and support package.

SAFauthenticator is available immediately through SAFLINK at a base price of $4,995 and provides an interface to SAFLINK enterprise security solutions licensed separately. SAFLINK will be demonstrating these products at the Secure World conference (booth #315) on September 24 and 25 at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue, Washington.
