Precise Biometrics Cooperates With Sun Microsystems to Deliver Biometrics Technology to Java Based Smart Cards

Nov-17-03

Precise Biometrics AB (publ), which develops and sells world-leading and user-friendly biometric security solutions based on fingerprints, has strengthened their cooperation with Sun Microsystems, a leading provider of industrial-strength hardware, software and services that make the Net work. As a result of increased demand for the integration of biometrics technologies into Java (TM) technology-based smart cards, Precise Biometrics has worked with Sun to expand its combined fingerprint and smart card technology, Precise Match-on-Card(TM), to support Sun's Solaris (TM) operating system.

This new partnership will enable Sun to offer its customers the advantages of combining biometrics and Java Card (TM) technology for identity management within IT security solutions, for example Web Single Sign-On. In addition to its compatibility with Java smart cards, the solution has been made compatible with Sun's Solaris operating system and will be offered by Precise Biometrics as a software development kit specifically designed for application providers. This solution is a result of Precise Match-on-Card(TM), Precise Biometrics' technology for fingerprint matching on smart cards.

"The fact that Sun now demonstrates our Precise Match-on-Card(TM) technology to their customer base gives us not only the opportunity to enter a new market, but also a new and very strong sales channel," said Christer Bergman, President and CEO of Precise Biometrics.

"The combination of biometrics and Java based smart cards takes large scale Identity Management solutions to a higher level," said Peter Cattaneo, Director, Java Card Business of Sun Microsystems. "Precise Biometrics is a leader in fingerprint Match-on-Card technology and in combination with our Java card platform, it gives customers a highly scalable and secure solution, further enhancing privacy requirements of today's networks".

"Precise Match-on-Card(TM) technology is allowing Sun to offer fingerprint-based Java card authentication to our customers. Precise Biometrics' Software Development Kit augments the Java card authentication by adding the "who you are" factor, guaranteeing very strong authentication for scenarios such as Solaris authentication, application authentication or even web-based authentication integrating with our Java System Identity Server," said Alexis Roos, Senior Software Architect from Software Services, Sun Microsystems, Inc.

Sun will be demonstrating a Web Single Sign-On solution based on Precise Biometrics' software development kit for Precise Match-on-Card(TM) functionality, at Cartes 2003, the world forum for professionals in smart cards and related industries, in Paris, France, November 18-20 (booth #4 M 017).
