Australian Designed & Manufactured Fingerprint Reader BioScan® Gains ASIO endorsement

Sydney, Australia - Sydney based Biometrics Design Company Bio Recognition Systems Pty Ltd this week received ASIO (Australian Security Intelligence Organisation) endorsement for there locally produced Finger based Biometric Reader BioScan®.
The BioScan® device has been assessed as meeting ASIO’s requirements for “SECURE AREA” access control applications when fitted with the case / wall tamper switch (which is supplied as a standard component with all BioScan® Security Units). There are Seven levels of endorsed security applications, as defined in the Protective Security Manual, ranging from Secure Area (Most Stringent) to Protection of Valuable Items (least Stringent) .
BioScan® utilises the latest biometric identification systems, and is the first biometric fingerprint authentication solutions that can work for everyone, everywhere, under the most demanding real-world conditions. At the heart of the solution is a patented RF (Radio Frequency) sensor which detects fingerprints even in the most demanding dirty, dry, wet and foreign environments.
Radio Frequency scanning technology looks past the easily obscured outer layer of the skin - the epidermis - to the living layer below where the unique ridge and valley patterns of the fingerprint originate.
When a finger is placed on the BioScan's® sensor, the drive ring couples a small signal onto the finger's living subdermal layer. Received by the elements of the sensor, this signal creates a digital pattern that reflects very accurately the fingerprint's unique underlying structure. This is in sharp contrast to the images generated by simple optical and capacitive sensors, which read only the outer surface of the skin. This technology has not been spoofed or defeated in all tests to date, both by ASIO or other testing bodies worldwide.
The result is a high-quality image that other approaches simply cannot equal. This means that Bio Recognition Systems Pty Ltd BioScan® and BioLock® (due for release in 2004) Systems with Radio Frequency technology acquire fingerprints when other methods cannot.
BioScan® can be used for access control functions, fraud control, lift and locker control via use of a multi relay board, Time and Attendance functions and Job costing. It operates via a pin code & finger, or card & finger via its standard Weigand interface. It can be used in conjunction with SmartCards, Mifare Cards, Proximity or other reader types. Standard Ethernet communications guarantees ease of installation and low installation costs. BioScan® also has the facility to install an optional colour or black and white camera for integration into a closed circuit TV systems, battery backup, and memory configuration to handle up to 64,000 users. Used in conjunction with Bio Recognition Systems Pty Ltd’s BioNet® Access Controller software BioScan® forms the front end of a highly secure security and/or Time and Attendance installation.
