MELBOURNE, Fla.- AuthenTec's TruePrint Technology-Based FingerLoc AFS8600 Fingerprint Sensor and AFS8600 Blackfin-Based Embedded Developer's Kit Opens Doors for Low-Cost Access Control Applications

AuthenTec, Inc., the leading semiconductor provider of fingerprint sensors to the global market, today announced the availability of the low-power FingerLoc(R) AFS8600 fingerprint sensor and its high-performance FingerLoc AFS8600 Embedded Developer's Kit (EDK), based on Analog Devices' Blackfin(R) Processor, providing a complete low-cost solution for small form factor applications requiring the security of biometrics with the convenience of one touch access.

Touch and Go Security for Rugged Applications

With the introduction of the FingerLoc AFS8600, AuthenTec further extends the breadth of its TruePrint(R) technology-based portfolio offering with the first low-power, robust fingerprint sensor specifically designed for the demands of small form factor access control and time and attendance products, including door locks and POS terminals.

"High performance authentication has never been easier or more affordable for organizations working to manage employee access to facilities and employee sign-in," said Steve Mansfield, vice president of marketing, AuthenTec. "OEMs can differentiate from their competitors by easily incorporating this low-cost benefit of enhanced security into products."

The FingerLoc AFS8600 features a robust nickel-plated stainless steel finger-drive ring for increased durability and enhanced long-life product aesthetics. Available immediately, the AFS8600 is priced at $23 per unit in quantities of 10,000. For more information, visit www.authentec.com/products/docs/DataSheet-Glossy-FingerLoc-AFS8600.pdf

Enabling Quick and Easy Integration for Original Equipment Manufacturers

Also announced today, the FingerLoc AFS8600 EDK is a standalone fingerprint matching subsystem (MSS) allowing Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to add fingerprint authentication to existing systems without having to become experts in biometrics. The FingerLoc AFS8600 EDK includes modular hardware and software components helping to minimize the overall time-to-market of biometrically-enabled OEM products. A simple four-wire communications interface and convenient software APIs provided in the EDK allow easy integration into existing systems. Powered by Analog Devices' Blackfin Processor, the AFS8600 EDK provides enhanced fingerprint matcher and biometric performance. Available mid-February, the AFS8600 EDK is priced at $1,499. Additional MSS boards will also be available at $500 each. When integrating into existing systems, the approximate Bill of Materials (BOM) cost of the AFS8600 MSS is $37 in 10,000 piece quantities. Award-Winning TruePrint(R) Technology

Recent recognition of AuthenTec's fingerprint sensors have included numerous prestigious awards, such as: the 2003 Innovative Housing Technology Award; the 2003 BiometriTech Best of Show Product Award; the 2003 Florida Governor's New Product Award; the Wireless Systems Design 2002 Reader's Choice Award; and the SC Magazine Best of 2002 Award.

Used to replace PINs, passwords, physical access cards and keys, AuthenTec's TruePrint(R)-based sensors provide the most convenient and reliable fingerprint security solutions available today for the PC, wireless, access control and automotive markets. AuthenTec's patented TruePrint technology allows fingerprints to be read below the surface of the skin to the live layer — or true fingerprint. As such, TruePrint is not affected by common skin surface conditions including dry, worn, calloused, dirty or oily skin that can affect other sensors' ability to acquire accurate fingerprint images for user authentication purposes. Uniquely, TruePrint is the only fingerprint sensor technology capable of acquiring anyone's fingerprint under virtually any condition. TruePrint technology is the driver behind AuthenTec's ability to provide the broadest range of form factors and the lowest cost fingerprint sensors available on the market today.
