Intelli-Check Joins Steering Committee to Support the Underage Drinking Prevention and Retail Assistance Act of 2004

Legislative initiative kicked off in event at the National Press Club, sponsored by the International Institute for Alcohol Awareness, a project of the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation

Intelli-Check, Inc. (AMEX:IDN), a leader in advanced identification-document-verification systems, announced that it has joined the steering committee of the International Institute for Alcohol Awareness to support the Underage Drinking Prevention and Retail Assistance Act of 2004. Ralph Thomas, Intelli-Check's senior vice president, sales and marketing, demonstrated the company's age-verification technology today at the kick-off event which was held at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. The other members of the steering committee include E-Seek, First Data, Precision Dynamics, Scholastic, National Liquor Law Enforcement Association, The Bars Program, Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation, and Leiweke Distribution Company.
"While some may dismiss underage drinking as an unavoidable, 'kids will be kids' rite of passage, underage drinking is no joke - it's deadly - the cause of more than 3,000 American deaths each year and millions of injuries," said Frank Mandelbaum, chairman and chief executive officer of Intelli-Check. "In addition to the devastating human cost, there are significant monetary ones as well - some $62 billion annually in expenditures associated with death, injury, property damage, and related economic losses. Additionally, establishments that unwittingly sell alcohol to minors risk substantial fines and criminal penalties, including potential license revocation and exposure to liability under state Dram shop laws where enacted, which allow a person who is injured by any obviously intoxicated person to file a claim for relief for fault against any person who knowingly sells alcoholic beverages to a person under 21 years of age."
