Democratic National Convention Security Forces Deploy BIO-key’s PocketCop® Wireless Mobile Technology

Minneapolis –International, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: BKYI), the leader in finger-based biometric identification and wireless public safety solutions, today announced that local and state Massachusetts law enforcement agencies are using BIO-key’s PocketCop® wireless mobile information technology to provide security for the Democratic National Convention in Boston.

BIO-key’s PocketCop software operating in handheld mobile wireless PDAs or laptop computers, will provide first responders and security officials in the field with the same vital tactical information that previously they only had access to in police stations or command centers.

“This is a major breakthrough in providing operational security technology for the law enforcement officer on the beat - whether they are in a cruiser, on a boat in the harbor, on horseback, on a bike or on foot”, said Mike DePasquale, BIO-key CEO. He added, “Access to integrated real-time information and communications with other parts of the command - vital for patrol officer effectiveness - have now become possible with BIO-key’s security solutions.”

With PocketCop, patrolling security officers will have real-time access to driver license information, including driver photographs, vehicle registration, stolen vehicle information, weapon registrations, wants and warrant information and access to local, state, county and federal criminal databases. PocketCop was prominently displayed in a recent news report by MSNBC discussing security preparations for the Convention.

PocketCop has been implemented in more than 70 cities and towns in Massachusetts and is being used by Massachusetts State Police, Logan Airport Police and The Boston Police Department. BIO-key’s security solutions are used in more 500 police vehicles and by thousands of police officers. PocketCopâ has been implemented in regional networks in the Boston metropolitan area, including the seven cites that contiguously border Boston Harbor.

PocketCop is an open software architecture, with encryption methods for secure transactions and runs on industry standard hardware platforms including wireless devices, handheld PDAs, tablet PCs and laptops.

Security is a new reality in the 21st century that takes heighten importance at large, high- visibility events like political conventions. As reported in the 9/11 Commission hearings, a critical security gap in the battle against terrorism is law enforcement’s inability to share information across various agencies and disseminate that information into the hands of first responders. BIO-key’s PocketCop directly addresses this security need.
