About the BEACON

Located in West Virginia's High Technology Corridor, the BEACON is a collaborative center for experimentation and analysis that brings together Lockheed Martin, its customers and other industry partners to develop integrated solutions for a dynamic environment. In addition to visiting experts, the BEACON is staffed by operational domain experts and also houses highly trained specialists in service-oriented architecture and biometric technology.

A gateway to broad capability that spans the depth and breadth of the corporation, the BEACON offers core resources for testing leading-edge ideas and analyzing biometric concepts. The center leverages two key networks:

The Global Vision Network - Connects Lockheed Martin engineering and laboratory locations, including the Lockheed Martin Center for Innovation in Suffolk, VA; Draper, Utah; and Lockheed Martin's CMMI-Level 5 biometrics organizations in Orlando, FL and Rockville, MD.
The Multi-Sector Crisis Management Consortium - A nationwide, high-performance collaboration capability, the organization links more than 200 universities worldwide with additional access to state and local government offices.

How to Get Involved - Vendors are invited to bring their products for integration into Lockheed Martin's BIO-SOA, a service-oriented biometric framework where extensive testing can be performed.

Lockheed Martin Biometrics utilizes two key networks:

• The Global Vision Network that connects their engineering and laboratory locations in Suffolk, VA and Draper, Utah to their five biometric organizations in Orlando, FL and Rockville, MD.

• The Multi-Sector Crisis Management Consortium – this organization provides access to more than 200 universities worldwide as well as with state and local government offices.

• Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

Enrolls and credentials pre-qualified maritime workers who require routine, unescorted access to their ports.

• First Responder Authentication Credential (FRAC)

Helps verify the identities of first responders and quickly route them to where they’re most needed at an incident scene. 

• Registered Traveler (RT)

• Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS)

Lockheed Martin  provides IAFIS maintenance support; resource of 55 million fingerprints for the FBI.  

• Identity Intelligence solution

Combines data from biometric, biographic, and other sources to determine a person’s identity.

• Biometric Analysis & Identification System (BAIS)

Links different databases to cross-check and verify a person’s identity using multiple biometric modalities.

• Faces in a Crowd video analysis system 

Advanced facial detection and tracking technologies in conjunction with the BAIS biometric identity technologies to find and identify people from video footage — live or from archived files.
This solution gives military, law enforcement and security officials a powerful application for scanning crowds of people, searching for the one who could represent a threat.

• Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS)
