Botswana police choose Sagem Securite's new-generation AFIS - July 11, 2008
Paris, Sagem Sécurité, part of the SAFRAN Group, announced today that it has been chosen by the Botswana Police Service (BPS), following an international call for tenders, to supply and deploy the latest version of its MetamorphoTM Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS). The system will be installed at 61 sites around the country.
An invaluable aid in crime-fighting, the MetamorphoTM system not only processes fingerprints for all ten fingers but also analyzes palm prints. This state-of-the-art system features very-high-quality image capture (1000 ppi, or pixels per inch), to guarantee the reliable, accurate and secure management of the country's criminal data.
"Ten years ago Botswana chose our AFIS for its civilian ID cards, making it a pioneer in this field," said Sagem Sécurité Chairman and CEO Jean-Paul Jainsky. "Today, they have once again chosen a Sagem Sécurité system, reflecting their trust in our innovative technologies to continue meeting their requirements. Our latest-generation AFIS will enable the country's Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) to increase its crime-solving rate, while resolving cases very quickly, and will of course help them manage resources more efficiently."
Philippe Compagnon, head of the subsidiary Sagem Sécurité South Africa, added: "We offer the additional advantage of a strong local presence. We cover the entire South African Development Community (SADC) zone, now encompassing 14 countries, which means we provide the local support that is critical to maintenance and sharing of expertise."
The new contract from Botswana reflects Sagem Sécurité's technological leadership in palm print recognition, and in biometric identification systems in general. It also confirms Sagem Sécurité's leadership in this region of the world, and its commitment to establishing long-term relationships in Africa.
