Validity Introduces Advanced VFS301 Fingerprint Sensor with Optimized Performance for Notebook PCs - July 15, 2008

SAN JOSE, Calif.-Validity Sensors, Inc., a privately held biometric sensor company specializing in convenient, secure and reliable fingerprint authentication solutions for information, communication and entertainment devices, today launched the VFS301 Fingerprint Sensor. VFS301 is based on Validity’s LiveFlex® Technology, providing improved features for its notebook PC customers.

The durable and cost-effective VFS301 fingerprint sensor offers lower power, improved performance, a smaller form factor, and key customization options compared to its predecessor, VFS201, resulting in an even better end user experience.

Customization options include thin and variable z-heights, the industry’s first flush mount capability, and a variety of color options. The mechanical options help make OEM integration easier. Features like flush mount will help provide a better end user experience. Custom color options allow OEMs to match the fingerprint sensor color with the industrial design and look of their devices, satisfying end consumers’ desire for improved aesthetics on computer and electronic devices.

The VFS301 continues to provide LiveFlex® Technology’s superior durability and industry leading impact resistance. Unlike competing technologies, Validity’s actual fingerprint sensing area is made of durable plastic, not silicon, and is completely decoupled from the silicon drive chip.

The separation of the sensing area and the silicon chip also allows the VFS301 to maintain a large high-quality imaging area without compromising OEM customers’ cost targets. The silicon chip can be smaller than the sensor area, offering cost savings, while the sensor area can remain larger and optimized for real-life finger sizes.

“We are pleased to be able to offer a fingerprint sensor that meets our customers’ performance and aesthetics requirements, yet is also cost-effective,” said Mariel van Tatenhove, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Validity. “VFS301 is already getting positive reviews from customers and is being designed in at several OEM’s.”

Validity’s biometric solutions are used in numerous notebook PCs and PC peripheral devices offered by companies such as HP, Acer, General Dynamics Itronix and DDS.
